Lake Rotoiti, Lake Rotoehu and Lake Rotoma
Rotoiti is 14 kilometres long and less than 3 kilometres wide, and the deepest point
is near the centre. The lake is a popular fishing and boating resort and hot-spring
baths at Manupirua are accessible by boat on the south shore. Lakes Rotoiti, Rotoehu,
and Rotoma lie along the northern rim of a large caldera, cut off by sizable lava flows
on the south side. The cliffs on the north shore of Rotoiti and along Hongi's Track
form part of the caldera wall. Lake Rotoehu has hot soda-spring baths at the south-east
end, and Lake Rotoma is a popular picnic and boating resort.
There are plenty of accommodation opportunities around the shores of these fabulous
lakes. So close to Rotorua city, yet surrounded by native bush an the birdsong of the
melodic Tui and magnificent Wood Pigeon, these lakes are perfect for a tranquil base
in which to come home to after a busy day of exploring the wonders of this marvellous
